Forensics
Fluid Dynamics, the study of liquid and gas flows, plays an important role in virtually every aspect of our lives. The effectiveness of ventilation systems, the safety of aircraft, air quality and the risk of industrial accidents are but a few of the many situations in which fluid dynamics influences our lives. While modern technology is highly reliable, occasions do arise where either human error or a failure of technology result in property damage, personal injury and even loss of lives. The role of fluid dynamics in forensics is to determine what happened, why it happened, and to provide expert testimony.
Fluid dynamic phenomena can be found in many areas that require forensic investigation. The following is a brief listing of some of the topic areas that may require expert testimony and/or research into the event in question (for more information click on the Technical Note in the PDF downloads section to the left):
- Accidental Chemical Releases
- Industrial Accidents
- Single & Multi-Phase Releases from Ruptured Vessels
- Wind and Wave Loading
- Environmental Impact
- Ventilation and Building Technology
- Fire and Combustion
