Water Channel

Coanda’s 10m long re-circulating water channel is a versatile facility, designed to be used in a wide range of applications such as atmospheric dispersion studies, bluff body flows and marine hydrodynamics. The channel has a glass bottom and sides with a minimum number of support braces to maximize optical access.

Water Channel Specifications:

  • Maximum Flow Rate Q = 8.5m3/min driven by a 30 HP centrifugal pump
  • Plenum Dimensions = 2.4m high by 2.4m wide by 2.4m long
  • Channel Test Section = 1.0m deep by 1.5m wide by 10.0m long
  • Total Volume = 41m3

Coanda’s water channel is designed to allow the placement of surface roughness and obstacle arrays on the bottom of the channel. For each array configuration, inlet flow conditioning elements are adjusted and modified to ensure optimal boundary layer development. A computer controlled traverse mechanism and various support structures are affixed to the top and sides of the channel, in order to accommodate any instrumentation, calibration and/or test equipment.
